RE: What is the "doghouse" of a van?

It's the cover that covers the motor where it intrudes into the passenger compartment.

RE: Good Small Ice Chest

Buy any brand that features insulation that will keep ice for 5 days. Coleman. Igloo and Rubbermaid all make them in various sizes.

RE: refrigerator cooling

I have installed one of These on my refer. works great. Has a t'stat that clamps on at the top of the boiler tube to control it. In addition I wired in a switch to bypass the t'stat.

RE: Electric/12 Volt Question

I would keep a battery installed. There are many electronic boards used (refrigerator, furnace, water heater, control panel) and the battery will actually work like a surge arrestor to protect them from voltage spikes.

RE: simple portable water pump and tank

A Flo Jet pump would be fine. Add long leads if necessary with an inline fuse, fresh water hose and fittings and you'd be in business.

RE: RV Covers. Good or Bad ?

The debate to cover or not will rage on, I offer this situation to take into consideration.
A co-worker of mine had his 2006 Outback in storage in Georgia covered with a breatheable cover. He went to use the camper 3 weeks ago and uncovered it to find that the front area was badly wrinkled due to delamination. He took it to a dealer and was advised that the damage was not related to water intrusion but due to heat possibly made worse because it was covered. Cost to replace and repair $1600.

RE: Prevent tanks from freezing while dry camping

I really don't see how you can dry camp and keep your tanks from freezing. You can insulate your tanks using foam insulation panels and spray foam and add Ultra Heat tank heaters that will operate off 12V but that will require batteries with a substantial amp hour capacity to operate them and then the batteries would require charging.

RE: New Member, Long time lurker

Your roof vent should have a screen in it. I've owned 3 trailers now and never added any extra screening to it. Others may have differing opinions.

RE: Keeping warm in our motorhome

Here's a link to the insulation that was mentioned in one of the posts: Reflectix
. It is easy to work with (Measuring tape, scissors, duct tape, staple gun, hot melt glue ). I've insulated all of my storage areas that are on outside walls and pulled the paneling out on the outside walls of the closets and lined that too. I had plexiglass cut to fit over 2 windows in the bedroom and used hook & loop tape to fasten them in place. I also made a cover for the large front window using the Reflectix and hook & loop tape to hold it place. Others have mentioned skirting using using blue foam insulation boards and that would be smart. Adding a couple of 100W light bulbs underneath there to turn on when the temps drop down and stay down would be good.
